The salon was luxurious, with many
objects that obtained unnumbered details. Jonas found a man seating on a chair,
The Giver. They started working, laying
down on a bed; the Giver gave Jonas memories that weren’t real in the time
he lived. Jonas felt it was wonderful seeing a substance called snow, a sled, mountains, and cold,
it was something he had never seen and felt in his life. Afterwards, he saw sunshine and felt heat; he was shocked that such wonderful things were taken away
with a giant damage that the human had caused. Instantly, Jonas had so many
questions, he was angry that the humans had taken away this extraordinary nature’s
miracle. For the first time, Jonas felt physical pain he felt sunburn, even though
it hurt he was glad that he was selected for being transmitted this remarkable experiences.
Soon, Jonas started seen the color red, he was developing the ability to see
the beyond, the Giver was glad this happened to Jonas because he was learning
fast, so he decided to give Jonas the memory of the Rainbow.
Sometimes we make decisions that
at the end might not be the correct ones. After the Giver showed Jonas the
feeling of cold, snow, hot, sunshine and sunburn he commented to the Receiver…
The Giver
shrugged. “Our people made that choice, the choice to go to Sameness. Before my
time, before the previous time, back and back and back. We relinquished color
when we relinquished sunshine and did away with differences.” He thought for a
moment. “We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others.” “We
shouldn’t have!” Jonas said fiercely. (Lowry 95)
I think, at that time when
people decided to relinquished the sunshine and the color they did not measure the impact that it will
represent, and nowadays that is only a memory that could not be manage by
everyone but only by one person, the receiver. In the other hand, sometimes when
we make decisions, we don’t have the time to make enough reasoning, but I do believe that at
that time, to decide about the sunshine and color might be a really important
decision. Also we have to remind that whenever we make a decision, right or
wrong, we have to deal with the consequences. Once I
made a wrong decision and it was really hard to deal with the consequences; but
at the end I learned about it, and I got the chance to fixed it and not doing
it again. It must be really hard that when you made a bad decision and there is
no way back, how you can fix it, you have to live with that your whole live.
Maybe this is happening in the book, there is no going back.
Mr. Heath show us in the video "Making Choices" that we should try to make the correct decision, since every decision has its consequence.
As simple as in the video, to choose between one pair of shoes or another, or choose a huge decision, life is like that full of choices; the thing is to pick the good one, thinking about the consequences, about others, about you. Jonas community decided long time ago about these necessary and basic things; do you think they made the correct decision? Are you willing to sacrifice such wonder because of a little discomfort? I don’t think so.
Isa, I really liked the structure of your blog, how you madethe text, the images and the video. Your summary was very interesting and made me want to keep on reading. When I read your text response, I had a connection with my own blog because I used the same quote and I completely agree with your point. It isn´t fair for someone to take such important decisions without preventing the consequences. The video was very explanatory and your conclusion was very consise and well explained. I really liked your blog and each sentence I read only made me want to read more.

Dear Ale, thank you very much for your comments. It makes me very glad that you felt identify of my point of view. For the people in the community at the time of the decision of relinquish sunshine, color…, they must felt a lack of natures gift and they couldn’t regret it, so they just lived with that and the next generations didn’t experience this so they just live as they were ordered. Living with others decision’s consequences must be really hard . Hope we still keep blogging.
DeleteIsa, i like your blog very much including the form in which you write you summary. After reading your text response about decisions it made me wonder What is a good decision on Jonas community?
ReplyDeleteRafa, your question is really good. In a community full of rules and limits, I think the “ good decision” you can take is to choose follow the rules otherwise you can be punished. But also a good decision is for example to help other people in trouble, even if it is prohibited to help them, good actions can never be wrong, don’t you think so?
DeleteIsa I really liked the part when you mentioned that people take decisions without much reasoning which came through my mind when I read the exact same quote.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, most probably, because we live in a full speed world, everything electronic and the info goes and come really fast, sometimes we don’t stop and really think about what is going on or take a good reasoning on choices. I am afraid of the people that gets the responsibility on others actions or decisions.
DeleteIsa,
ReplyDeleteYour blog post was excellent! When you said that even small choices can lead to bad things such as wearing something that others might not like, this can lead to judgement. Simple things like choosing samsung or iPhone can define you when both objects are things made to communicate. Overall, I agree that small choices can lead to greater decisions.
I really liked your blog since it colorful and full of visual media I thought it to be really original of your part. I enjoyed reading your summary and I thought it was well structure with clear ideas of how you interpreted how the decisions of the elders or the creator affect the society.
