SUMMARY
Jonas was an eleven year old boy who lives with his parents and sister Lily who was 7 years old. They were a unit in this community where a speaker tells everybody what to do.  People in this community were oppressed by a committee members commanded by the “Giver”. They decided the future of everyone, for example when children turn 12 years old, the committee gives each child the job they will practice for the rest of their lives; this can be nurturer, birth mothers, instructor, designer... In order to get a job assigned they need to accomplish certain amount of volunteer hours, and this can help the committee to decide which job to give, because they were always watching and controlling them. On December everyone turns one more year, so it was really important for Jonas because soon he will turn twelve, so the committee will give him his job and he was wondering if he would like it or not. This community was full of rules, and if you broke one you will be released; this was really bad and you were humiliated. Everyone was afraid of this; but also the elders, at certain point of their lives they were released too, and this was good for them, so they weren’t afraid; they just went through the release room where adults farewell them and they just walk away and nobody know where they went. Jonas father was a nurturer, he always love to take care of children, and in this time he was in charge of one boy, named Gabriel; he thought that this boy needed special care because he wasn’t growing as every child and he could be “released” so he decided to give Gabriel a chance, giving extra attention like taking him home to share with family.

TEXT RESPONSE
“He helped the woman from the chair, let her to the top, removed her robe, and steadied her with his hand on her arm as she stepped in and lowered herself. She lean back and sighted with pleasure, her head on a soft cushioned headrest.
“Comfortable?” he asked, and she nodded, her eyes closed. Jonas squeezes cleansing lotion onto the clean sponge at the edge of the top and begun to wash her fragile body.” (Lowry 30)

This made me remember when my great-grandmother was really sick and my grandma and I went downstairs and help her changing clothes and taking care of her, feeding her and making company. I remember that she was grateful with us and she enjoyed our company as much as I did. I remember her with great affection; she was very generous and loving. I miss her very much.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Prediction: I think Jonas will face a lot of problems because he is different from the others. Not only physically but they way he was. This little boy Gabriel, he was physically different as Jonas; while everyone was black hair and black eyes, Jonas and Gabriel had light brown hair and brown eyes. Maybe Jonas had this connection with Gabriel, and at certain point Gabriel was “released” as he could reach the requirements, so Jonas tried to save him. Probably Jonas was “released” too, because of this but he escaped, and when he passed through the release room without anyone  notice it, he found a new world, where people were free and happy so he found Gabriel but he wanted to go back and save his family and his friend Asher. When he came back, his family and friend where capture, and Jonas suffered a lot of things to save them. At the end he uncovers the truth about this mean committee and the giver who were taking advantage of this innocent community. Jonas was the hero, and the community were free and happy.

  3. Isa, i liked very much your blog and after reading your summary in which you say that people are controlled by a speaker it made me think of how individuality is not allowed on that community. Also that individuality is what makes us different from the rest and special.

  4. Rafa, I’m very happy that you like my blog. Definitely I agree with you about the individuality, which is one of our themes, because each of us is unique and that is what makes us special form others.

  5. Isa,
on the part were you thought that Jonas would go through the release room without being noticed i found it odd that such a controlling society would overlook this. But after thinking about it, everyone on the society followed the rules and the Elders probably didn´t worry about people not following these rules. Do you think that Jonas would go against the rules or would someone else force him to do so?
Anyway, your blog post was very interesting and thoughtfull I don´t know what it is like to take care of grandmothers but I am sure that is a memory that would stay in your heart forever. Just like Jonas who did everything carefully and caring I think you did too!

  6. Dani, I predicted that Jonas was going to escape threw the release room without anyone noticing because from the beginning Jonas was special, as it says in page 24 where Jonas saw the apple change its shape; you can see that Jonas is a different boy from the rest, he sees things that no one else sees, he is intelligent, he is a sensitive boy, he use extra reasoning to find the correct word to describe his feelings (page 4) he is different and unique. As Jonas is special because he notices things nobody else did, that make me think that he fools the security and could manage to go through the release room. We can also realize about Jonas feelings and what he can possibly do in page 39 where Jonas like the feelings of stirrings, when he took the pill to forget the dream and the feelings; you can read between the lines and analyze that he felt strange and upset when he swallowed the pill that made everybody forget their feelings. Thank you for your comments and final thoughts ꞉)
